Chrisette Michelle
HAIR HAIR HAIR

I was asked the question:
Why did you cut your hair?
Followed by an exclamation of:
you need a wig!
Here's my question:
When did I become an insignificant extension of my hair?
Nay!

My hair is an extension of me
Not the other way
And is not a prerequisite for my beauty
But what you say is quite revealing
My low self esteemed, meddlesome one:
If hair (yours or bought) is what defines you
Who are you without your hair,
your weave, your perm, your wig?
All are just accouterments
Accessories
Not what your worth is.
I suppose you need makeup too
Can't live without maybeline or Mac?
Then I suggest you take your mind back
From vogue and black hair
It's not fair how they brainwash you
And make you feel small
You must know
You are beautiful just the way you are...

Here's my disclaimer: regular hair combs, brushing, showers and attire changes are strongly recommended on a daily basis. Even though we are already awesome, our dirt and natural colognes leaves a bit to be desired...
Lol... #justmythoughts

Let it all go
And watch yourself
Grow...

Journaling is an excellent way to record your journey
but it also provides healing, and direction
Putting your pain on paper provides you with an outlet
a place to empty it all
Writing your dreams, concerns and ambitions
helps to steer you in the right direction

So embrace pen and paper
Write the dreams that you savor
your gripes, your complains
your wounds, aches and pains
Write it all and have no doubt
In the end it will all work out...

MOSHIA' PEN...
By Shakima Dyke (Graffiti Chick)

CLARITY

I would love to erase the pain in my past
and its tentacles touching everything in my life
I wouold love to pick up the pieces
And move forward
But at times it seems so impossible
I feel stuck and I'm ashamed of it
Others are ashamed of me too
I frustrate my surroundings
and end up feeling alone

I feel alone in a crowded room
All alone
Sealed in a glass tomb
Looking out at dark, cloudy skies
Lightening and thunder rumbling
And one lone corner blue
With light shinning through
I try to focus on that light
But sometimes lose sight of me
When I can't see me
Everything else obscures my view
Until calm and clarity rescues me
Helping me to see through the fog...

   I PEN

I pen and I levitate
And write across the sky
They keep trying to kill I
But I still don't die
Instead I multiply wisdom
From ignorance I free them
Spread I wings and fly higher
Have a Chat with the messiah
And bring back scrolls of knowledge
I keep locked in I consciousness
Until they scream release
Then they flow through I pen
Effortlessly I bequeath them
Understanding rains on the ignorant and destitute
The prisoner and the prostitute
Wisdom also makes fat
Giving what can't be bought
What can only be learned
But never taught
I pen brings light to the dark corners of mind
With each and every line
I pen teach...

GET TO STEPPIN

How do you walk away
when love has bruised you
turn your back on everything you're used to
close the door and just walk away
easy enough to say

It takes strong will to execute
self-control bares fruit
if we apply it
but when love interrupts even though we know what the right is
sometimes it's too strong to fight it and we fold
relinquishing control of our senses
how to walk away when this bed is all I know
I'll tighten up my boot straps
Grab the few things I still got
And grow...

CONTENTMENT

I neglected my pen for a time
And then
I found myself missing my rhymes
I missed constant communication
With inner me
I felt lost and lonely
And thought if only
I had fresh paper
And an ink filled pen
I'd record my thoughts
And be content...
